It's a very interesting suggestion, painperdu. We have recently been discussing how to handle questions which are aimed at getting opinions from community member (eg - there is not "correct" answer.) Your idea of polls and surveys feels connected to the same general topic. I'm not completely clear about how a poll helps clarify a question, but it is obvious that a poll IS a Q&A mechanism.
If we do add support for polls, then I believe it has to be extremely simple and functional. There are excellent systems out there for authoring and managing detailed surveys, but they are dedicated solutions for surveys. OSQA cannot hope to replace such systems, nor should it. Instead, we would need to focus on perhaps just a single question poll with multiple answers, and users could optionally attach comments to their answers and/or reveal their specific choice of an answer.
This type of KISS approach could fit into the scheme of things and help enhance OSQA's ability to power a full-featured Q&A community.
